Mar 10 - ‘FAT’ AND ‘HOT’

“The LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day” (Gen 18:1).

Here the Lord’s appearance to Abraham can be compared to our home-call. This thought enlightens us on how we ought to end our life.

When the Lord appeared, Abraham was in the plains of Mamre. ‘Mamre’ means ‘fatness’. We should be spiritually fat and flourishing – not lean – when we finally meet our Lord. Of those in the house of God (Church) it is said that they shall bring forth fruit in old age (Psa 92:13,14). Our lives should be fruitful – useful and a blessing to others – till the end.

The patriarch was at the tent door. ‘Tent’ signifies faith life. It is indeed sad, that some saints who once lived by faith, trusting God for their health, wealth and healing, are now seeking medicine, doctors and human remedies. Will the Lord see you sitting at the tent door if He calls you today?

It was “in the heat of the day” that Abraham welcomed the Lord. May the Lord grant us the grace to be spiritually hot – to be zealous for God and in the height of our spiritual life with the Sun of righteousness at its zenith, when He calls us.
