May 26 - NO FAMINE IN GOD’S HOUSE!

We have often heard of the greatness of Abraham as the Father of faith, as a man of obedience and sacrifice, etc. But there was an ugly scene of backsliding in his life. Just as we learn many things from his faith, obedience, etc we learn many lessons from his backsliding.

“Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south. And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there”(Gen 12:9,10). Leaving Bethel, Abram moved down to the south and faced a famine. ‘Bethel’ means ‘house of God’. Abram should not have left Bethel; there’s no famine in Bethel. The prodigal son could not get even swine’s husk to satisfy his hunger, while those in his father’s house had bread to spare.

Child of God, don’t ever go away from God’s house; don’t be slack in attending all meetings arranged for you. The Lord has provided for all your needs there. “The children of men… shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Thy house; and Thou shalt make them drink of the river if Thy pleasures” (Psa 36:7,8).

If you find you are running short of spiritual food, if you have no desire for the Word of God, you must be moving in the wrong direction. And if you don’t get enough spiritual food, take note, you will start craving for Egyptian food. It will do you good to remember that it can never satisfy your soul – it is only ‘husk’ that is meant for swine!
